Destination Success:
“All Aboard, This Train Is About To Depart”

When will you reach Destination Success? The modern world is fast paced and people are impatient. They want everything and they want it right now! A promotion, a pay rise, or a holiday! It is impossible not to be frustrated with this way of being. There is never enough. Your experience is partly made up of who you are being and partly by what is happening. When you are aware of this you can make some powerful choices. By choosing who you are being you can get on the train to you personal Destination Success. Though doing this you will find that just being on the journey results in the fulfilment you were looking for in the first place.

I know you have problems, career objectives and challenges. You will always have them. In fact the more successful you are the bigger your problems will be! The CEO of a multi-national corporation has a lot more responsibility than the boy in the mail room, with that responsibility come problems.

There is nothing wrong with challenges. They help give us a sense of direction in life and an opportunity to grow. What is important to realise is that Destination Success is not a place where all your troubles have been solved. There will always be more problems.

Suffering and discontent happen when you choose to live in a fantasy land of “I shouldn’t have to do this, and this is unfair”. It is all rubbish. Things are the way they are. You can choose to make up stories about them feel like a victim, feel superior, or complain wildly to everyone around you so you can feed on their sympathy. These choices are like standing in front of the train carrying your dream career and getting run over by it, every single wheel of every single carriage continuously. In the long run you are just hurting yourself.

Choosing Fulfillment

What Destination Success offers is fulfilment in place of frustration, even whilst the challenges still exist. Look around you at the present situation. Likely you are sitting in a room reading this from a computer screen. What else do you see? Which sounds can you hear? Where are the feelings in the body?

These things are what exist now. You cannot see, hear or feel a problem. Problems arise out of choosing to be somewhere other than here and now. The struggle emerges when you forget that you have chosen your problems. You then start using them to mentally beat yourself up. Which of these sound familiar: “I’m a failure, I’m not good enough, I can’t do it, It’s too hard”?

In reality there is only what is now, who you are and what you do. You can choose to fully be here, rather than torn between what is and the story you have created about what should be. There are no problems. There are only things to do given an experience of life you would like to have.

The suffering ends when you choose to be here now, doing what you are doing, experiencing what you have. These are the three building blocks to finding life purpose. A more accurate description would be “choosing life purpose”.

Destination Success is not in your external experience. So if you are the victim of working conditions you do not like start choosing them because they are what is now. There is nothing else.

Making New Choices

This is where it gets exciting because by choosing your present situation you gain the power to change it rather than suffer in it. You may choose your present job now right now in the moment, but in the future wish to choose a new career.

I experienced this in the career path I chose to follow. By working part-time with small emerging businesses I accepted low wages in return for a unique range of experiences and level of responsibility. In essence I was working harder and for less money that I could in the corporate sector, however, it was all in aid of gaining the experience and skills I needed for my chosen career objectives.

When I lost sight of the fact I was choosing this, I suffered beat myself up about how I should be earning more. This completely destroyed my level of fulfilment. When I re-chose the work, I stopped complaining about pay and started to enjoy just doing the job again.

Shortly afterwards I powerfully asked and received a pay-rise. What changed first in this situation was who I was being, not the external conditions. When I was unhappy, no amount of money would have made me fulfilled. In fact I was contemplating leaving altogether. By choosing my present circumstances I changed who I was being. This allowed me to be powerful in changing my external circumstances. The increased fulfilment came before the money, not the other way around as most people be would expect.

The train to Destination Success may be crowded and uncomfortable but if you want to get there, then get on. Does it really matter how you arrive at destination success? Surely the most important thing is that you arrive.

What I am referring to is arriving at who need to be to step into your full potential. Lying, cheating and backstabbing your way up the career ladder may change your external experience, but the picture will be incomplete.

Without becoming the person who is in the vision of an ideal life, you will remain unfulfilled. All you will experience is the suffering and frustration of new problems. When you get what you thought you would make you happy, then realise you are still unhappy is mid-life crisis time!

Realising Your Success

The missing component is who you are being. When you start doing what you want to do now, given your present circumstances you have arrived at Destination Success! This acceptance and capacity to choose what is now, is an important part of any personal development plan.

One characteristic of the person who has what you want and is fulfilled by it is that they choose what is now. They are not lusting after the next goal. So to become that person you need to also develop that capacity to choose powerfully and to get on the train, even if it is uncomfortable right now.

The challenges you presently face are your training ground for fulfilment. With a simple choice you get to have the best half of your dreams right now. You get to be the person that is successful. And I’m not talking metaphysically here. I’m talking day-to-day vivaciousness, enthusiasm, and happiness.

A nice side benefit is that you are more likely to draw in the external circumstances of your dream career by being this person. If you were and employer or a business person with a fantastic opportunity, would you employ or partner with the person who is being a success or being a failure in who they are? Which one is likely to pull you up, and which will drag you down?

Problems, goals and challenges exist for everybody. They provide us with the context for doing things in life. You choose your problems. When you forget this crucial fact challenges then become tools to mentally beat yourself up with. There will always be problems. The fulfilment and end of frustration exist in choosing who we are, what we do and have right now. Destination Success is arrived at when you stop resisting what is and get on the train, starting wherever you are right now!
