Finding Support For Success
When You Most Need It

Finding support for success is like building a pyramid beneath you. The more layers you add the higher you will rise. Building a team around you will give you accountability, creativity and connections. All success begins within, but it ends with results. The first step in creating these results is sharing your personal mission statement. When this is compelling you will begin to attract the people who will propel you to success.

Other people are crucial to your life experience. Who you are in the world is partly made up by who you choose to be, but also how other people perceive you. If you make new choices about your career aims, but do not tell anyone, then the world will continue to perceive the ‘old’ you. The results and opportunities life brings you will continue to be the same.

Your wealth is likely to be an average of the people you spend the most time with. Middle management associate with middle management and have a middle management mindset. In contrast entrepreneurs deal with entrepreneurs and also have their own mindset.

Who are the 6 people you spend the most time with? If you want different results then start finding support for success from the people that can help you with your vision. By gathering a team you will gain:

Accountability

Procrastination is one of biggest challenges to being extraordinary. If you want to become a star the fire has to start inside you. Yet it is easy to get stuck in a rut of apathy and disbelief.

By finding support for success you create a safety net around yourself. Your team will keep you honest about whether you are following through on your career objectives. The worst thing that can happen is that you do not make progress and you do not notice your time slipping away.

When people are concerned about your success they will ask you about it. You cannot escape the facts about your progress. This ‘calling to account’ empowers you to make new choices about how to proceed with your career.

Creativity

Sharing your vision can provoke creativity. What you say will mean something slightly different to each person you tell.

The responses and associations they make will offer you new perspectives on your goals. These exchanges of ideas can open up new and unexpected approaches to your purpose.

Connections

The world is a massive web of relationships between people. Finding support for success within your immediate web of contacts expands your personal network. Each of these supporters could introduce you to many people you do not know. Some of these may be key individuals who are able to offer you specific help, like mentoring.

As you gather a team around you, the opportunities to grow your network expand. The more people you have that are interested in you the more likely they will kick start your success.

Types of Support

There are several different types of support available:

Coaches – Who are experts at helping people exceed their expectations by transcending internal barriers and taking high impact, focused action.

Mentors – Who are ahead of you in the career game you want to play. They have experience and contacts they can share with you.

Support Groups – Where you can connect with people in the same situation as you. You can learn and share together. Make sure you pick a solution-focused group, rather than a complaint-focused group.

Building Your Team

Consider:

  • What types of support do you currently have?
  • How could finding more support bring you greater success?
  • Which types of people would you like to invest more time with?
  • Who do you know that could become part of your team?

At the time of writing I have 4 weekly touch points with a combination of Coaches, Mentors, and Support Groups. These span a variety of areas of my life. Some are formal arrangements whilst others are more casual. I also spend a lot of time with people who are entrepreneurial and interested in personal development.

My life today is all about who I aspire to be. With these structures in place it is impossible for me not to make significant progress towards my goals. There is no doubt that I will reach my career objectives. The only question is ‘when’.

Finding Support for success is important step for becoming the person that achieves your goals. The attitudes of those you associate with will ‘rub-off’ on you. So choose how you invest your time wisely. Build a powerful team that will promote your accountability, creativity and connections. Finding support for success expands your vision to other people. This is the first step in making your new career dreams a reality.
